Market Recap

XAUUSD
XAUUSD closed at 4008.48 for the 20 Jul session, up 5.35 or 0.134% from the 4003.13 open, after a 57.88-point intraday range that equated to about 1.45% of the open and sat below the D1 ATR14 of 85.5. The sequence of extremes was low before high, with the session trough at 3982.8 at 03:02 and the peak at 4040.68 at 14:34. Price crossed the 4000 handle during the day, trading below it early and settling back above it by the close; 4000 was the nearest 100-handle reference to the settlement. From the open, price fell 20.3 to the low, then advanced 57.9 to the high; it later gave back 32.2 from that peak into the close, which finished 25.7 above the session low and within the lower half of the day’s range. The intraday high was not revisited into the final prints, leaving the settlement below the day’s midpoint and more than 30 points under the peak. On the higher timeframe, the close remained 63.4 above the D1 lower Bollinger Band at 3945.08, while realized intraday movement was contained relative to the daily average implied by ATR. The session ran from 01:00 to 23:57 server time, and no additional multi-day highs or lows were flagged, with the daily Bollinger and ATR markers providing the primary technical context.

DJ30
DJ30 ended lower at 51936.15, down 192.35 points (-0.369%) after tracing a 639.0-point intraday range, equal to 1.23% of the opening level. The session began at 52128.5 and extended to a high of 52457.45 at 16:31 server time before turning down into the evening. The decline culminated in a late-session low of 51818.45 at 22:15, which set fresh 5‑day and 10‑day troughs and now marks the current 10‑day low; the print held just above the 51810.0 ten‑handle. The close was positioned 18.4% up from the day’s low, leaving it below the midpoint of the session range and below the open. Price action therefore featured a mid‑afternoon peak followed by a steady move to a new low into the final hours, with the market settling some distance off the intraday high but not far from the established floor. From a higher‑timeframe perspective, daily RSI(14) registered 45.83, offering a snapshot of momentum on the D1 chart without signaling stretch at traditional overbought or oversold thresholds. With the session confirming the 51818.45 level as both the day’s nadir and the 10‑day extreme, the tape closed in the lower quintile of its range while preserving a buffer above the 51810 ten‑handle. No additional higher‑timeframe levels, averages, or volatility measures were flagged for the period.

AUDUSD
AUDUSD traced a contained upward session on 2026-07-20, opening at 0.69633 and dipping to its low at 0.69617 at 00:05 before climbing to a high of 0.69946 at 05:42. It settled at 0.69924 by 06:33, up 0.00291 on the day, a gain of 0.418%. The intraday range measured 0.00329, equivalent to 0.47% of the open. The close was registered near the top of the range after the early low set minutes into the session, with price spending the remainder of the window advancing in stages and pausing short of the 0.7000 figure; the session peak stayed just below that round level. The close also came within a few ticks of the high, leaving the market positioned near the upper end of the day’s distribution. On higher timeframes, the pair finished above the H4 21-period EMA at 0.69808, with the final print approximately 0.0012 above that reference, while daily momentum metrics showed D1 RSI(14) at 62.26 at the time of the close. The session remained well above the 5-day low at 0.6912, and intraday action held north of 0.6960 after the early dip. From a structural standpoint, price marked its low almost immediately after the open, then progressed to successive intraday highs culminating at 05:42, before easing slightly into the close without reversing the upward bias of the session. Range size and the close near the high underscored a session that pressed toward, but did not test, the 0.7000 handle.

Economic Calendar Recap & Preview

Canadian inflation surprised on the downside: headline CPI fell 0.4 percent month over month (prior 1.0 percent; forecast 0.6 percent), core CPI rose 0.1 percent month over month (prior 0.6 percent; forecast 0.5 percent), and core CPI year over year eased to 2.1 percent from 2.2 percent but printed above the 1.9 percent forecast. Looking ahead, New Zealand’s CPI at 01:45 server time is the focal point. Year over year inflation is expected to accelerate to 3.9 percent after 3.1 percent previously, while the quarter over quarter measure is forecast at 0.6 percent versus 0.9 percent prior. If CPI prints higher than forecast, tightening expectations may firm. No other major data are scheduled around the release, but markets often treat the CPI basket as the primary signal for near-term policy calibration, so NZD and local rates could see brief volatility around the print.
