Market Recap

XAUUSD
XAUUSD traversed a 62.04-point session range, or 1.5% of the open, which equated to 60.8% of its D1 ATR, with the day’s extremes unfolding in a high-before-low sequence. After opening at 4125.86, price marked the session high at 4134.77 at 06:08, then retreated into the afternoon to register the low at 4072.73 at 17:33, before recovering into the close at 4119.72. The close left the metal down 6.14 on the day, a decline of 0.149%, and positioned nearer the high than the low, finishing roughly 15.1 below the peak and about 47.0 above the trough. Trading remained within the 4000–4100 handles throughout, with the low holding above the 4000 figure and the high set within the 4100s. By the close, price stood 19.72 above the 4100 handle, underscoring a finish in the upper portion of the intraday range. Intraday structure featured an early probe above 4130, a mid-session slide that carried price into the lower 4070s, and a late-session recovery that restored levels above 4110 without retesting the morning high. From a higher-timeframe perspective, the comparatively contained amplitude versus the D1 ATR highlights a session that did not extend beyond recent volatility norms, while the maintenance of trade within the 4100 handle into the close leaves the instrument settled inside the upper band of the day’s distribution.

USDJPY
USDJPY marked its high early at 162.42 at 01:01 and then trended lower into the evening, setting the session low at 161.27 at 18:57 before stabilizing into the close at 161.69. From the open at 162.35, the pair finished down 0.66 points (-0.41%), with a total intraday range of 1.15, equal to 0.71% of the opening level. The close was nearer the day’s low than the high, indicating pressure persisted after the early peak. Price action spanned the 162.00 and 161.50 handles during the move, and the 18:57 trough printed just above the flagged 5‑day low at 161.24. On the hourly timeframe, the settlement aligned closely with the 20‑SMA at 161.66 while remaining beneath the 21‑EMA at 161.77, framing the late-session recovery within nearby moving-average reference points. On the daily timeframe, D1 RSI14 registered 50.9, and spot ended above the 21‑EMA at 161.53, offering a view of where price sits relative to commonly watched trend markers. The sequence of the session was orderly: an opening near 162.35, a quick push to the high within the first hour, a sustained descent that culminated in the late-day low, and a modest bounce into the bell that left USDJPY below the intraday midpoint. By the close at 23:56, the pair had retraced a portion of the decline but retained a net loss on the day, with the low occurring within a few pips of the recent 5‑day floor.
